Town of Ajax Advantage Business Campaign

Access IO at OPG

Newcomer Volunteer Fairs

Funded by the Province of Ontario, the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre, Welcome Centre Immigrant Services and Oshawa Public Libraries, held the first Newcomer Volunteer Fair in the Durham Region.

Speakers and local community organizations provided insights into Canadian workplace culture, the benefits of volunteering when job searching and settling in a new community. Visitors explored volunteer opportunities in the fields of Arts & Culture, Social Services, Administrative, Fitness & Leisure, Education and Hospitality.

Youth Newcomer Volunteer Fair

Settlement Workers in the Schools (SWIS), the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre and the Durham Welcome Centres offered their first Volunteer Fair for Newcomer Youth in the Durham Region thanks to funding from the Ontario government.

Guest Speaker Michele Watson, Manager of Information Services at United Way shared benefits of volunteering and explained how to search the Volunteer Durham website to view volunteer opportunities in the community. Durham Region Police Services were on-site to talk about youth volunteering, rights and responsibilities. Several agencies throughout the Durham Region including Community Care Durham, CLOCA, Girls Inc., AIDS Committee of Durham Region, DRUHC, CDCD, Habitat for Humanity, and others shared information about available opportunities.

Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation

1COMMUNITY1 re-created and updated Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation (DRNPHC) website with an accessible and a user-friendly interface. 

DRNPHC is a social housing provider that owns and manages more than 1100 apartment and townhouse rental units at 19 sites across Durham Region in the Province of Ontario. The purpose of this website is to provide general information about the Corporation, its policies, operations, and mission as part of an overall communication strategy for all of our stakeholders.
